It was my first year of college when the first patch of Psoriasis appeared. This is when I learned my great grandpa, grandpa, uncles, and mom had experienced patches of Psoriasis in their lifetime. I remember my grandpa gave me a scalp scrubber for the shower and said "I'm sorry you got this, it runs in the family." I remember thinking, well there isn't much I can do, it's my genetics.

Around this time, my mom mentioned how she had a patch on her head and it went away after she got a perm. SOOO, guess what? I went and bought a perm kit to try and "kill" the psoriasis. After numerous attempts, no luck (and no, it didn't create an epic perm.) I later talked with my doctor and I was given a topical ointment to put on my head before bed. Lets say, sleeping with a shower cap isn't ideal and it did nothing for me. So, I was back to square one.....existing with Psoriasis and truly believing there was nothing I could do.

At this point I was feeling very unwell majority of the time. I had mystery nausea daily, I was tired all of the time, I had no energy, coffee fueled me, and a third patch of Psoriasis appeared. I continued to live life this way and accepted it as my genetics.

My Psoriasis at this point hadn't spread. I really wanted to try and clear my patches of Psoriasis with shifting my diet, so I dove deep and hard. I was already not eating meat, but I went vegan for some time and attempted eating mostly raw. I noticed some changes in the size of Psoriasis patches, but they never fully went away. I realized I really needed a doctors help who treats root cause! What I was doing wasn't working or sustainable long term.
What helped me take the next step to working with a Naturopathic Doctor was knowing she had healed a friends ulcerative colitis. I made an appointment quickly after hearing his success story. I viewed the out of pocket expense as an investment in my health and future health.
The Naturopathic Doctor's approach was through a blood test and a stool sample. This was just the ticket! I was blown away with the information shared after receiving the results from the lab.
Now, it wasn't a quick fix. At first the information was VERY overwhelming because I had major dietary shifts to implement, but it was what NEEDED to happen for me and my body. After cutting all foods sensitivities most physical symptoms I was experiencing (for so many years) went away. No more nausea, fatigue, low energy, brain fog, bowel issues, hypoglycemia, headaches, and anxiety with the hypoglycemia. I couldn't have healed myself without the help of my doctor. I'm forever grateful for her work and wealth of knowledge!
I continued with the doctors treatment plan until patches were either gone or not flared.
During my healing journey I learned the POWER OF FOOD. What foods serve me. What foods to avoid. How sensitive my autoimmune condition really is and what I choose to put on my plate either promotes healing or fuels inflammation.
I continue to avoid all foods that my body doesn't like. I choose clean sources of protein, now that I consume beef, chicken, and fish. I eat organic as much as possible. I try to consume mostly foods that come from the earth.
I LISTEN daily to my body when she SPEAKS. I provide my body with the fuel that works for my body. I feel empowered and more connected to my body each day. I am grateful! I do my best each day.
After healing my physical body, it allowed for deeper healing. I wasn't distracted with my physical ailments I was experiencing daily. I was able to DIVE DEEP in ways I didn't know existed.
